IF YOUR CHILD IS AGE 6 - we offer the option for families to choose whether you feel your child will feel most comfortable with a younger group of children or an older group of children.
If your 6-year-old is not used to being in groups of children, is still in kindergarten or learns more comfortably at a kindergarten level, we recommend you choose the age 3-6 program.
If your 6-year-old is accustomed to being in groups of children, is used to spending time with older children and is in first grade or learns most comfortably at a first-grade level (or beyond), we recommend you choose the 6-10 program.
NEW THIS YEAR: We are adding a new age group: Ages 11-14. We have three weeks confirmed for this age group (see below)!
While all themes are the same across age groups, all activities will be age-appropriate.

_______________
Summer programs take place at our southwest Minneapolis location on Diamond Lake. WE WILL NOT BE SWIMMING OR PLAYING IN THE LAKE.
Please note that HMLC is a screen-free environment, kids' phones and electronic devices will not be allowed at camp.
NOTE: If your child has a physical disability, a mental or behavioral health diagnosis (or known mental or behavioral health challenges) or has a history of physically running away from adults or groups into unsafe situations outside of safety boundaries (i.e. running into the street despite being aware of safety rules and being asked to stop), please CONTACT US before registering.
Every child and every situation is different, so we may be able to accommodate your family safely in a way that fully supports them. However, we are a very small organization and are unable to provide dedicated, one-on-one support. Please discuss with us first and we can let you know if the HMLC summer program is a good fit.
WEEK TWO - Legends, Lore and Mythical Creatures - June 9 - 13
From unicorns and mermaids to the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot and everything in between, we'll be playing games, doing crafts and participating in creative activities exploring and highlighting these creatures!
WEEK THREE - Music and Dance Week - June 23-27
Making music, mastering the latest dance moves and much more. We're working to secure a dance instructor to lead us in a lesson, local musicians to lead us in a live singalong and will create an exclusive new Camp HMLC hit song in the music lab.
HMLC mixed-age summer programming is open to children ages 3-14. HMLC is not a childcare program and we do not have the facilities or personnel to perform diaper changes, so we ask that all learners be using the toilet reasonably reliably. Disposable training pants (such as Pull-Ups or similar) are fine.
HMLC programming is designed to take place outdoors and as much time will be spent outdoors as long as the weather allows. When there is extreme heat, inclimate weather or dangerous outdoor air quality, we will utilize our indoor spaces.
HMLC operates under a community care model: We have a number of children and adults in our community who are immune compromised and have high-risk medical conditions. At this time, masks are required for all adults and children during any time indoors. All learners must reliably be able to wear a mask, when necessary. Masks are optional for children outdoors based on learner and family preference.
All participating children are required to be up to date on all vaccines (including measles, flu and COVID) at the time of participation. If your child is medically exempt from one or more vaccines, they are still eligible to participate. We are ONLY able to offer medical exemptions and require a doctor’s note to confirm.
Due to our small group sizes, space is extremely limited. Register today!
WEEK FOUR - July 7-11 - Games Week
Join us as we play our way through a week filled with board games, card games, dice games, games of skill and chance and more. We'll create our own board games and are even working to secure some time with a young local board game designer to share his secrets to success!
WEEK SIX - July 21-25 - We Dig Dinosaurs!
From fossil digs to carnivore, herbivore, omnivore (rock, paper, scissors style) -- we're exploring the world of dinosaurs with activities, games, crafts and we're working to secure another virtual Q&A with our favorite paleontologist in Montana!
WEEK SEVEN - July 28-August 1 - TAKE TO THE STAGE THEATER WEEK
We'll explore the theater through acting games, stage crafts and activities. Throughout the week, we'll create and write an original stage production, rehearse and end the week with an epic show! We're working to secure time with a local improv actress again as well.
WEEK EIGHT - August 4-8 - Arts and Crafts Week
Arts and crafts are where it's at during camp and we've got lots of those! We're working to secure time with one or more local artists so they can share their talents and lead us in activities.
